Camp Not-a-Wheeze
ASTHMA CAN NOT KEEP KIDS FROM ENJOYING SUMMER AT CAMP NOT-A-WHEEZE
Come join us this summer for a magical camp experience! Camp Not-A-Wheeze is the only camp of its kind in Arizona providing children with asthma from all over the state with a safe, traditional summer camp experience. Camp takes place at the Friendly Pines facility in Prescott, where children participate in activities ranging from horse back riding, hiking, canoeing, fishing and more while also attending asthma education class to learn more about properly managing their asthma. Campers are accompanied throughout the week by licensed medical professionals who volunteer to ensure a safe, well monitored environment. Make new friends, participate in exciting outdoor activities and create unforgettable memories.
The American Lung Association is currently taking applications for Camp Not-A-Wheeze dates: May 31 – June 6, 2008. Go to http://www.lungarizona.org/north/Not-A-Wheeze.htm for an application.
MEDICAL VOLUNTEERS NEEDED FOR LUNG ASSOCIATION ASTHMA CAMP
Dispensing medications , staffing the infirmary and cabins, asthma education and monitoring the campers' breathing are several of the important duties performed by the medical volunteers of the American Lung Association of Arizona's Camp Not-A-Wheeze. Most important is the fact that these men and women dedicate themselves to ensuring a great and safe time for the campers.
Each volunteer is paired with one or two other medical professionals and assigned to a cabin with a group of campers. In addition to teaching asthma education courses each morning, volunteers accompany campers on all activities and outings. It is a wonderful opportunity to enjoy the outdoors, have fun with the kids and network with other medical professionals from around the state.
Although working with the campers is certainly rewarding, volunteers need some rest and relaxation, too. There are horseback rides, scheduled free time, nightly prize drawings and a hospitality cabin just for our volunteers.
If you would like information about volunteering at next year's camp, please contact Camp Director, Amber Lee at the American Lung Association of Arizona , (602) 258-7505 or e-mail alaa@lungarizona.org.
